Using Keyword Research To Find Profitable Keywords

Keyword research is without a doubt one of the most important parts of an effective SEO strategy. If you fail to do in depth keyword research when starting a new website, then you could potentially be targeting the wrong keywords and all the SEO work you do targeting the wrong keywords will be a huge waste of time and money. You know what they say in the business world, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. This is still very relevant internet marketing and seo.

When you are found in the search engines though different keyword phrases, you want to make sure you are targeting the right keyword phrases. Traffic will only convert to sales if it's targetted. Not only do you want to brainstorm for a large pool of targetted keywords, you want to also ensure the keywords you are optimizing for are being have a high search volume.

Two very popular and useful keyword tools for doing keyword research is Wordtracker and the Google Keyword Tool. Wordtracker compiles data from various Meta search engines (fairly limited data sample) and Google Keyword Tool consists of keyword data from the Google Search Network. I tend to have more trust in Google data as it’s a larger data sample, however in saying that it has it’s disadvantages in that the search volume for some keyword phrases can be inaccurate but it's a good keyword research tool nonetheless. Wordtracker is useful in that it’s a good comparative tool for singular and plural variations.

Another really good keyword tool is the Digitalpoint Keyword Suggestion Tool which actually combines Wordtracker and Overture keyword data side by side, so you get the best of both keyword data sets displayed to your in an easy to read format. Google Trends was the other really good keyword tool which Google only made public very recently. Google Trends is useful for a number of things, but I love using it to analyse trends in markets to see how popular a keyword has been over time.

Free keyword research tools are great and get the job done for the most part. Not only do you want to be targeting the right keywords to get more traffic from the low hanging fruit, you want to be targeting keywords which get a decent CPC with Adsense.

Adsense was a godsend for many webmasters when it was introduced. When you have been involved in webmastering for a while, you soon figure out different niches and keyword topics can payout vastly different amounts for every click.

Needless to say, in order to make a lot of money with Adsense, you need to be creating content based on the keywords which have a high amount of bids on Adwords and the other PPC engines, but in particular Adwords. I have adopted this strategy with some good success.
